Efficiency
What is Efficiency? How to Measure Efficiency in Garments Industry?
What is Efficiency?
Efficiency is the ratio of useful
work performed by man or machine to the total energy consumed by them. Efficiency
deals with the consumption of the least amount of raw material (input) to achieve the highest amount of output.
In the garments industry, Efficiency is
the ratio of produced minutes to spent minutes. Where-
Produced Minutes = Output × Garment SMV
Spent Minutes = Manpower × Working Minutes (Working
Hours × 60)
How to Measure Efficiency?
To measure the efficiency of any
operator, any sewing line, any sewing floor or unit and entire factory the
formula is-
Here,
Output = Number of garments pieces
produced by a certain time
SMV =
Standard Minute Value of the garment
Manpower = Number of
worker worked (Operator + Helper + ironman)
Working minute = Total minute work to produce the
garments.
Example:
A sewing line produces
1200 pcs in 10 hours. Total worker work 44 and garment SMV is 9.68. What is the
efficiency of the sewing line?
Here,
Output = Number garments pieces
produced by a certain time = 1200 pcs
SMV =
Standard Minute Value of the garment = 9.68
Manpower = Number or
worker worked = 44
Working minute = Total minute work to produce the
garments = 10 Hours = 10 × 60 = 600 minutes
If we put all the value in the
efficiency formula we will find the efficiency of that sewing line.
So, Efficiency = [(1200 × 9.68)/(44 × 600)] × 100 = 44%
If production
is higher with same manpower or time, efficiency also higher.
