What is SMV in Garments Industry?
SMV in Garments Industry
SMV stands for Standard Minute Value which indicates
the standard time allows to complete a task successfully to an operator.
In this article, I will explain the definition of SMV on various concepts. The concepts are-
1. SMV and SAM
are the same.
2. SMV as a monetary term
3. SMV is
completely different from SAM
SMV Calculation by Different Concept
Most of the time we got confused about
the definition of SMV and SAM. The definition varies from person to person and
country to country. But most of the person define SMV as it is different from
SAM. Though we will learn all of the possible definitions from different SMV/SAM
experts.
According to
the 1st concept, SMV and SAM are interchangeably used and they are the same.
All of
individual process of a garment item SMV is calculated firstly, then sum all of
individual process SMV to get final SMV value. The formula to calculate SMV/SAM
is-
SMV/SAM = Basic Time + Machine
Allowance + Bundle Allowance + Personal Allowance
Where Basic
Time = Cycle Time × Operator Performance Rating
This Cycle Time is
calculated by the stopwatch.
According to the 2nd concept, SMV is considered by monetary term. The formula to calculate SMV is –
SMV = SAM * CPM
Where, SAM =
Basic Time + Machine Allowance + Bundle Allowance + Personal Allowance
and CPM = Cost Per Minute
Example: SMV of a process is 0.58 and
CPM is $ 0.92. What is the SMV?
SMV = 0.58 ×
0.92 = $ 0.53
According to the 3rd concept, SMV and SAM are completely different.
The formula to
calculate SMV is –
SMV = SAM - Allowance
