What is DHU? How to measure DHU?
What is DHU?
DHU stands for Defects per
Hundred Unit. Theoretically, it is the total number of defects found in a hundred checked processes/garments. It is also known as DPHU (Defects Per Hundred
Unit)
To measure the DHU, the definition
of defects and defective items should be cleared. To know clearly about the defect
and defective item click here.
How to measure DHU?
To measure the DHU of any process or
garment, the following information should be needed-
1. Total pieces checked
2. Total defects found in those checked
pieces
Now easily can calculate the DHU by following
formula-
DHU
= (Total number defects found X 100) / Total pieces checked
A sample data collection format form
DHU is shown in the below figure.

| Figure: Quality Inspection Checklist for DHU Data Collection |
In the above figure, a quality inspector checked 986 pieces of a process/garment and found a total of 179 defects.
Now we will calculate the DHU of the process.
Here,
Total pieces checked = 986
Total defects found in those checked pieces = 179
Now, put the value on DHU formula.
DHU
= (Total number defects found X 100) / Total pieces checked
= (179 × 100)/986 = 18.15
